Who We Are

We are growers and seed producers of minor seed crops, chief of which is Kochia prostrata. There are several factors which influence our ability to produce this crop in an efficient manner; these deal specifically with location and management techniques.

We farm in a portion of the Columbia Basin of Eastern Washington known as the East High area. This area is known for its deep silt loam soils and extremely low annual precipitation; seven inch annual precipitation is normal, generally between the months of October and March. Those farms that are irrigated from deep aquifers in this area are surrounded by wide expanses of dryland wheat farms cropped on a biannual basis using summer fallowing techniques in the intervening years. Integral daylight hour accumulation during the growing season is extremely important in the seed production of forage kochia due to the photosynthetic path this particular plant uses, C4 photosynthesis.
